Xinhua on Friday signed agreements with Zambia’s mainstream media outlets, including the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) and the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC), to strengthen cooperation in such fields as news exchange and training of journalists.
When meeting with Loyce Saili, director of the ZANIS, and Bright Nkaka, acting director-general of the ZNBC, Fu Hua, president of Xinhua, said Chinese and Zambian media have long maintained good relations and served as an important bridge between the two countries and two peoples.
Fu said on Friday that as the year 2024 will mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Zambia, the media outlets should report more on exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in various fields, to foster a favorable environment in terms of public opinion for both countries to pursue a development path suited to their national conditions, and contribute to the further deepening of all-weather, all-round and high-quality China-Zambia cooperation.
“Xinhua is willing to share with the Zambian media the experience of media convergence with the empowerment of innovative technology, and strengthen cooperation under multilateral platforms and frameworks for media exchanges such as the World Media Summit and the BRICS Media Forum, to better tell the stories of China-Zambia friendship,” said Fu.
Saili voiced her hope that ZANIS and Xinhua could expand cooperation in video and new media coverage, and more platforms organized by Xinhua such as the BRICS international journalism training program are expected to strengthen exchanges between the two sides.
Nkaka said as Xinhua has a global news and information gathering network, it is hoped that the signing of the news exchange and cooperation agreement will enable the ZNBC to expand the channels of communication, enrich news content, and provide Zambian audiences with more news and information.
On the same day, Xinhua donated office equipment to some media groups in Zambia.
During Fu’s Zambia visit, Xinhua also signed a news service agreement with Zambezi FM Radio, with both sides hoping to enhance mutual understanding between the Chinese and Zambian people and promote friendly relations between the two countries.
